Rules of the Realm: Deciphering the Interface of The Primal Playground

Welcome to the permanent reference hub for The Primal Playground. While under the hood the simulation engine continuously calculates deep background data—including population migration, resource yields, and economic trade routes—running a live campaign relies on a clear mastery of your player interface, action parameters, and victory thresholds. Before you load your next world seed into an AI session, familiarize yourself with these core operational rules.

Gaming has always been a passion of mine.  This is why I created The Hidden Lair, to provide a place where people can share their love of games.  I’d love it if you wanted to play a game with me.   Come help me put my new game through the paces!

1. The Core Loop & The Player Interface (GUI)

The game is played in consecutive turns called Epochs, representing a fixed passage of historical time (defaulting to 25 mortal years). When it is your turn in the asynchronous relay, the AI engine will present you with a comprehensive Divine Turn Briefing. This serves as your primary Graphical User Interface layer, displaying critical data parameters across these dedicated panels:

  • Public History Since Your Last Decree: A compressed, highly narrative chronological summary of public events, major conflicts, and environmental shifts that have transpired across the world since your deity last acted.
  • Your Divine Status: Displays your current Faith percentage, active Domain dots, Identity Domain anchoring, and your current Fade Risk (ranging from Low to Critical). If your Faith remains mythically stagnant for multiple consecutive turns, your primary worship base decays.
  • Your Worship Base & Civilization: Tracks the localized health of your primary society, showcasing total population, government type, social traits, and localized stability.
  • The World Harmony Monitor: A real-time display tracking the systemic friction between Technology and Magic. Equal levels represent a balanced world. A gap of 2 tiers yields sharp operational advantages to the dominant path, while a difference of 4 or more tiers triggers Reality Instability, causing public miracles to distort or fail violently.

2. Drafting a Divine Decree

To influence history, you must submit a single, secret Divine Decree. You can utilize the engine’s built-in Guided Decree Builder to express your tactical intent in plain language, or format it manually using the required strict submission template:

MANIFESTATION: (How your god physically appears or signals their presence to mortals)
PRIMARY DECREE: (The core historical action or infrastructural shift you command)
TARGET: (The specific tribe, geographic region, or rival faction being affected)
DESIRED OUTCOME: (The structural, cultural, or logistical result you want to achieve)
METHOD: (How your mortal priests, prophets, or miracles execute the order)
SECONDARY BLESSING OR CURSE: (An auxiliary environmental or regional shift)
DIVINE SECRET: (Hidden text or tactical movements completely masked from rival players)
RISK TOLERANCE: (Low / Medium / High)

Strategic Archetype Tip: Choosing your Risk Tolerance directly impacts the engine’s simulation variance. Low Risk yields safe, incremental growth (e.g., advancing basic metallurgy from Tier 0.7 to Tier 0.9). High Risk allows for massive, reality-bending gambles, but risks plummeting civilization stability or generating catastrophic regional backlash if the simulation rolls poorly.

3. Structural Simulation Rules: Population & War

To maintain high stability, a deity must understand that the simulation operates through logical consequence rather than arbitrary rule-bending:

  • The Faith Formula: Your Faith percentage is calculated strictly as your primary followers divided by the total global population. Reaching 30% Faith unlocks Civilization Scale authority, while 75% or more grants total world-altering mastery.
  • Downward Population Pressure: Factions expand naturally through peace, advanced agriculture, and medicine. War never creates population growth. While a military campaign can redistribute borders, resources, or faith, conflict always exerts downward pressure on the global human population unless extraordinary divine factors offset the damage.

4. Victory and Defeat Conditions

A campaign officially concludes when any participant satisfies the criteria for one of the definitive God Victory Paths, or when the players face total systemic failure:

The Paths to Divine Victory

  • Mythic Ascension: Secure 50% or more primary Faith globally and bring your Identity Domain to Level 4 or higher.
  • Apotheosis: Advance any single Domain to Level 5 by successfully clearing a World-Defining Mythic Challenge (such as purifying a major Adversary foothold or surviving direct conflict with a rival god).
  • Eternal Empire: Maintain at least one primary civilization at a stable tier or higher (60+ Stability) for 3 consecutive Epochs.
  • Technological Singularity: Successfully push global infrastructure to Technology Tier 5 while retaining 25% or more primary Faith.

The Defeat Condition: The Long Night

Players must actively coordinate to manage the world’s ambient Dread Level. The Adversary (The Devourer) wins the simulation outright and triggers The Long Night if all of the following conditions are met simultaneously:

  1. Global Dread reaches 100 (completely shattering mortal belief in divine protection).
  2. World Stability drops below 25 (plunging kingdoms into absolute civil war and structural collapse).
  3. All active gods fall below 15% primary Faith, leaving no deity with enough mythic authority remaining to restore hope to the sandbox.
